I am honored to be presented the “Honest Scrap” award from silverstar.

As an award recipient, I have two things I must do:

First, I must tag other people to meet this challenge.  However, I’m not one to tag other folks.  If you wish to share, please do.  I’d be intrigued to read it.

Second, I have to list 10 interesting – and little known – tidbits about myself.  Now, that instruction that these things be “interesting” is clearly quite subjective.  And I admit to having a bit of a hard time coming up with 10 things that I think you’d find interesting.  But, still, here we go – – –

1)  I played Joe Montana (49ers Super Bowl winning quarterback) in football…and made him cry.

2)  The ‘boys’ — my left one is slightly bigger than my right one.

3)  I set fire to a field when I was 6.  By accident.  Honest!  Never admitted to it.  Took two fire trucks to put it out.

4)  I plagiarized in high school.  Twice.  Both were because I’m an excellent procrastinator, not because I couldn’t do the work.

5)  I have no medial meniscus in either knee.

6)  I played sousaphone (tuba) in high school.

7)  Although I’m a pilot, often flying my plane more than a mile high, I am afraid of heights.

8)  I smoked my first cigarettes when I was 6 years old.

9)  My eyes sparkle… a direct result of having had cataracts in both eyes in my mid-40s.

10)  I never went to my high school prom.

So, there they are.  Hopefully you have found a few of these “interesting”.  I may elaborate on a few of these in future posts.

The ‘girls’…. my right is slightly bigger than my left. But the left one is my favourite.

  2. Stephanie of Stopbouncing Says:

#1 makes me respect you all the more.

I did read all ten though.

  3. S. Le Says:

Wow! Some of that was more than I needed to know! lol

  4. writerdood Says:

Sounds like you were into football.

I didn’t go to my prom either. I asked the prom queen, but she already had a date, so I used the money to buy a calculator watch, and spent the evening playing my Atari 2600.

  5. hisqueen Says:

FYI…the “boys” and “girls” are just like our feet…one is always smaller/bigger.
Wondering if the cigarette smoking at age 6 is somehow related to the fire in the field. Hopefully that is a lesson that you learn about smoking being bad. ooohhhh.. i just re-read it and it says “cigarettes”..bad very bad.

joe montana made me cry twice (1982, 1988), so i’m glad you got one in for me… bastard…

  7. thegnukid Says:

nursemyra – i like both boys equally (and your girls, by the by). they’ve been very supportive through the years, even if one had to work more.

stephanie – you like me! you really like me! (with apologies to Sally Field)

    s. le – but now that you do know, you’ve got the advantage on me…

writerdood – still am into football, though i (obviously) don’t play anymore. i’m glad you at least took the chance and asked someone to prom. me? couldn’t stand the thought of rejection (misplaced, though that probably was)

hisqueen – true that… and, no, the fire preceded the smoking by about half a year (as i recall it)

daisyfae – i knew, even back then, that he would break your heart. that’s why i did it…

  8. beaverboosh Says:

height ok, it would be really bad news if you had a fear of flying… possibly a fear of proms…

  9. Lynn Says:

wow gnukid these are most interesting facts. seems you may have been a handful at the young age of 6. and…if i’d have known you in highschool i’d have gone to the prom with you- i’ve got a thing for musicians. 🙂

  10. thegnukid Says:

beaverboosh – maybe a fear of proms held at tall heights?

  11. Mitzi G Burger Says:

I have a fear of heights but primarily over water rather than land. A fascinating ten, and congrats on your award!

  12. thegnukid Says:

Mitzi – so where’s your ten?

  13. thegnukid Says:

Lynn – sorry for the late reply… moderating was required… and my mom agreed with you wholeheartedly that i WAS a handful. and you’re too sweet… going to the prom with me? awww… [blushing]
